Facts to consider before planning your trip abroad

  • Some countries deny visas to persons with certain illnesses, such as AIDS. Chile requires medical tests (including an HIV test) for short term tourism visas for Cuban citizens and international exchange students.
  • Some countries may also require applicants to attest that they have had no criminal convictions, and do not partake in activities like prostitution and drug trafficking.
  • Some countries will deny granting a visa if a passport show citizenship or travel to a country considered hostile to that country. For example, some Arabic oriented countries won’t issue visas to nationals of Israel or those who have visited Israel.
  • The US has tightened up its Visa procedure following the 9/11 attack, making the process even slower.
